the owner jerry warned us that the ham and eggs at the cafe was the best breakfast on earth.. i cant argue with that, it was a huge ham steak with eggs toast biscuits and gravy alongside hashbrowns.. amazing breakfast, especially when youre about to ride a bike for 75 miles!!
as i continue on in my 'everything edible should be smoked' phase of my culinary life, it is the one thing i am loving about oklahoma.. this is a spot called the rockin rib in tishomingo.. every bbq place we've been to has had really cool people working there and this is no different... afterall they are surrounded by bbq all day!! id be in a great mood also
warner was a really cool town with one restaurant (we dont eat fast food or chains) the rib barn.. really cool friendly people making incredible bbq.. we had ribs, pulled pork, and brisket with potato salad and baked beans, pickles and onions... awesome, i think when i left i asked chelsea why everywhere on earth doesnt have people slowly smoking meat
we got some great brisket by accident outside of muskogee.. we stopped at a little fam owned convenience store and asked where we can get good bbq.. dan said 'well hell i just took some brisket off the smoker this mornin' '200 degrees for atleast 10hours'
the nite we came in to arkansas to meet up w my buddy juan he had some bangin soup workin.. here he is rollin' out the noodles.. the whole soup had maybe 5 ingredients.. simple and delicious
roast beef w mashed pot, gr beans and aroll.. alongside a couple sips of whisky in a cold tent underneath a bridge next to goose lake.. great supper courtesy of boss cafe.. thanks guys!!
we found a little mexican spot with one older lady working there.. she really was an amazing cook.. chelseas first experience with menudo was successful.. menudo is a hangover cure (we used it to warm up) and served usually on sat and sun.. its made from honeycomb tripe (the first 2 chambers of a cows stomach lining), pancreas, and pig feet.. its stewed with chili, lots of chili and hominy.. then finished with onions lime and cilantro.. the second time ive had menudo outside of mexico.. a really gratifying soup
a typical breakfast these days: chix casserole w 'real' mashed potatos ('real' is specified on menus in the midwest?? kinda scary), gr beans and bacon and potato salad.. about a gallon of coffee and youre ready to start the day
two pieces of toast with hamburgers, bacon, and french fries covered with cheese... good at a bar.. not good on my stomach at about 2:30 am... woke up in the middle of the nite and had about 60 seconds to get dressed and get out of the tent..
